Niseko (ニセコ町) is a town located in Abuta District, Shiribeshi, Hokkaidō, Japan. To the Japanese people, Niseko principally refers to a mountain range and a municipal area. However, overseas the name has come to refer to a wider area of ski resorts encompassing Hokkaido's Mount Yōtei, often referred to as the "Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido", and Annupuri ranges. The name Niseko derives from the Ainu language and means "a cliff jutting over a riverbank deep in the mountains". Its main industries are agriculture and tourism.

Niseko is very probably the most well-known ski resort region of Japan, with ever increasing attention from skiers and snowboarders from around the world. There is a town called Niseko, but in terms of visitors to the ski resorts, 'Niseko' is often referred to as the region covering both Niseko town and Kutchan town. The main Hirafu resort town area is actually in Kutchan, the bigger of the two.

The Niseko area is one of the snowiest in the world and Niseko is renowned for consistent top-class powder snow conditions. This incredible snow quality has led to incredibly fast growth over the last decade or so with many foreign guests and increasing investment from overseas.
