By the way, do you know "Rakugo (落語 literally "fallen words")"?
Rakugo is a Japanese verbal entertainment.
The lone storyteller (Rakugoka, 落語家) sits on the stage, called the Kōza (高座).
Using only a paper fan (扇子, "sensu") and a small cloth (手拭, "tenugui") as props, and without standing up from the seiza sitting position, the rakugo artist depicts a long and complicated comical story.
The story always involves the dialogue of two or more characters, the difference between the characters depicted only through change in pitch, tone, and a slight turn of the head.

KANSAI&WEST / Architect lends hand to project in Metro Manila

OSAKA--An Osaka-based architect is creating a master plan for a large-scale entertainment complex in Metro Manila and helping it obtain Japanese financial aid to counter scheduling problems and other issues caused in part by the economic slump.

OSAKA--The Kamigata Rakugo Association began offering an English conversation class last week to rakugo comic storytellers and employees of the Tenma Tenjin Hanjotei theater at the theater in Kita Ward, Osaka.

The association of Kansai area rakugo storytellers decided to begin offering the English conversation class once a month to help the actors better entertain the foreign tourists who visit the theater.

In addition, Japanese rakugo storytellers have occasionally performed overseas.

KATSURAGI, Nara--With the downturn in the popularity of domestic Japanese sake, a local brewery in Katsuragi, Nara Prefecture, is looking to expand its business overseas.

Akira Yoshida, the 61-year-old president of Umenoyado Shuzo Co., said: "I need to explore new markets if the firm is to survive."

Founded in 1893, the firm went public in 1950 and had reached annual sales of 1.55 billion yen as of June 2009.

Although Yoshida represents the fourth generation of his family to run the brewery, the brewery is something of a newcomer in the industry. It has enjoyed increased popularity since the local sake booms that began in the 1970s and fizzled out a couple of decades later.

Turkey is carved to feed some of the about 130 guests at a Thanksgiving Day celebration on Thursday at the Osaka mayor's official residence in Miyakojima Ward in the city. The Japan-America Society of Osaka and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan organized the party to bring Japanese and expatriates living in the Kansai area together for the traditional American feast.

KANSAI & WEST / Kobe-based NPO launches 'simply packaged' campaign

KOBE--A Kobe-based nonprofit organization comprising Kobe University students has launched a drive urging people to purchase simply packaged products at three supermarkets in the city to help reduce waste.

The organization, Gomi Japan, hopes to expand the drive nationwide.

The organization chose 394 minimally packaged items among 1,438 items, including food and daily necessities, and placed a small, light-blue display card near the products explaining the Gomi Japan concept. The organization will analyze the sales of the selected products over a year. ...
