Japan's beer-free beer garden

Suntory Liquors says it will claim a first in local beer-garden history when it opens its stand this week: No alcohol allowed.
The garden at Tokyo’s swanky Midtown shopping complex will not be serving any alcoholic beverages. The only beer on tap will be the Japanese brewery’s All-Free, of which the alcohol content is 0.000%. There will also be soda, orange juice and tea. That’s it.

Japan's 2nd budget airline takes off

Yamagata Shinkansen marks 20th anniversary

The Yamagata Shinkansen train line linking Tokyo and Yamagata marked its 20th anniversary Sunday.
Since East Japan Railway Co. started operating the line in 1992, about 62 million people have traveled on it.
A specially designed Tokyo-bound "Tsubasa" Shinkansen train was operated for the occasion.

Tour prices halved by low-cost carriers

With low-cost air carriers on the rise, travel agencies have begun using them to offer cut-price package tours. In early June, JTB Corp., the nation's top travel agency, began marketing package tours based on flights handled by Japan Airlines-affiliate Jetstar Japan, which will start operations Tuesday.
