Artists' network works together for quake relief

To some foreigners who stayed, those who left Tokyo after the March 11 earthquake committed a cardinal sin, worthy of the disparaging epithet "flyjin."
Yet when couple Ai Kurahashi and Sebastian Mayer left for Phuket, Thailand, and their friend Naoko Maeda headed to Osaka, such criticisms were the last thing on their minds. Kurahashi and Maeda had spent several days translating Japanese news for English speakers in Tokyo, while Mayer had been planning to sell artworks to raise money for the cause.

Japan takes step towards ordinary life as Disneyland reopens

http://www.asahi.com/national/update/0415/images/TKY201104150166.jpg

The popular resort shut its doors after the massive March 11 earthquake and tsunami devastated a broad swathe of northeast Japan and damaged the Fukushima nuclear plant 240 km north of the capital, hit by rolling power cuts and ground liquefaction that caused some parking lots to crumble.
Screams of “Mickey!” rose from among the several hundred people lined up outside the park as popular characters waved in greeting before the gates swung open at 8:00 a.m. (2300 GMT), sending many sprinting inside.

Set far back in the valley, Ainokura is the most remote village in the Gokayama region. It is also the largest of the villages with nearly 20 gassho-zukuri farmhouses.
Many of them remain private residences, although a few have been converted into restaurants, museums, and minshuku.

(Dining room of a gassho-zukuri farmhouse)

More than a dozen gassho-zukuri farmhouses in and around Ogimachi are now functioning as minshuku, family run, Japanese style lodgings.
An overnight stay at one of these farmhouses is a highly recommended experience, as it is a great way to experience a traditional Japanese family home and get more intimate with gassho-zukuri buildings.

Refer to "Sanzen-in Temple (三千院)" located in Ono / Ohara Area.
The primary place of interest in Ohara must be Sanzen-in, a Tendai Buddhism monzeki temple.
Its gardens and a small hall called Ojogokuraku-in as well as the three Buddhist images in the hall are very much worth to see.

Hedo Misaki (Cape Hedo) / Okinawa Main Island

North of Nago, Okinawa Main Island is only scarcely populated and mainly covered by forests and hills. Hedo Misaki (Cape Hedo) is the island's northernmost tip, offering spectacular views of the cliffy coast.

The main approach to Cape Misaki is by route 58 along the western coast, where, halfway between Nago and the cape, there is a nice hiking trail to the Hiji Waterfall (about 30-40 minutes one way, 200 Yen admission to the trail) and a JAL resort hotel around Okuma Beach.
