Do you know "Drift ice".
We are able to enjoy "Drift ice" in Abashiri Area, Hokkaido.
Drift ice is ice that floats on the surface of the water in cold regions, as opposed to fast ice, which is attached ("fastened") to a shore.
Usually drift ice is carried along by winds and sea currents, hence its name, "drift ice".

Shiretoko Peninsula / Hokkaido

Introduce "Shiretoko Peninsula (知床半島, Shiretoko-hantō).
Shiretoko Peninsula is located on the easternmost portion of the Japanese island of Hokkaidō, protruding into the Sea of Okhotsk.
It is separated from the Kunashiri Island of Russia by the Nemuro Strait.
The name Shiretoko is derived from the Ainu language word sir etok, meaning the end of the Earth or the place where the Earth protrudes. The towns of Rausu and Shari cover the peninsula.

Sapporo is the fifth-largest city in Japan by population.
It is the capital of Hokkaidō Prefecture, located in Ishikari Subprefecture, and an ordinance-designated city of Japan.
Sapporo is best known outside Japan for hosting the 1972 Winter Olympics, the first ever held in Asia, and for the annual Yuki Matsuri in the city, internationally referred to as the Sapporo Snow Festival, which draws more than 2 million tourists from around the world. The city is also home to Sapporo Brewery.

"Ryōmaden (龍馬伝)" is the 49th NHK Taiga drama.
It airs on NHK from January 3, 2010 every Sunday from 20:00 to 20:44 JST to November 28, 2010 spanning 48 episodes.
The story centers on the life of the 19th century people Iwasaki Yatarō and Sakamoto Ryōma.

Jigokudani or "Hell Valley" is a spectacular, appropriately named valley just above the town of Noboribetsu Onsen, which displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic activity.
It is a main source of Noboribetsu's hot spring waters.

Noboribetsu Onsen is Hokkaido's most famous hot spring resort. A large amount of Noboribetsu's many types of hot spring water surfaces in the spectacular Jigokudani or "Hell Valley" just above the resort town. Noboribetsu is part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park.
